The Chaff Bomb

Chaff Bombs are quite often a ship's last line of defence against any kind of guided missile or other seeking weapon. Designed to be dropped behind a ship which is attempting to evade incoming ordinance a Chaff Bomb will explode almost immediately, emitting various **Noisy chaff units.

Chaff Bombs are available from many sources. The more reputable the source the better the quality. Chaff Bombs bought from some sources have been known to explode so violently and so close to the ship dropping them that they can inflict more damage than the incoming threat. Alternatively some have simply failed to operate at all.

Chaff Bombs have also been known to be dropped with minor modifications by pilots just prior to abandoning their ship. These often explode causing damage to any would-be salvager entering the area surrounding the abandoned ship in an EVA suit. Accordingly Chaff Bombs can be bought, or upgraded, with timers and sensors which allow them to be rigged up as early warning systems or make-shift mines.

**Noisy chaff units can simply be flares to put off line of sight or heat seeking missiles, or an array of kamikaze interference droids, explosives or other more obscure technologies. As always the devil is in the price. The more you pay, the more the Chaff Bomb can deal with.
